Vienna, 28 September 2026 – Tamburi, Austria’s largest carrier-neutral parcel station network, continues its growth with the opening of its 1,000th parcel station in Austria. Aptly named “Tausender” (“One Thousand”), the installation at Antonie-Lehr-Straße 17 in Vienna-Floridsdorf marks an important milestone in the nationwide expansion of an open, carrier-neutral parcel station network.

With the installation of its 1,000th parcel station, Tamburi further strengthens its position as an Austrian provider of open parcel infrastructure. Expansion is gathering pace. The Tamburi network includes locations at residential developments and in municipalities, as well as busy transport hubs.

“The thousandth Tamburi says a great deal: it shows that open parcel infrastructure is reaching the places where it is needed, right where people live. Tamburi stations are highly valued by their neighbourhoods. They make life more convenient for residents and increase property values. Parcels are here to stay. Every neighbourhood and residential development needs its own Tamburi today,” says Dominic Allram, Managing Director of Tamburi’s operating company.

An open network for everyone

The Tamburi system is designed as open infrastructure, used by parcel carriers and for other applications. People can conveniently receive or send parcels close to home. Temporary storage of items such as luggage or Click & Collect orders is also possible.

The parcel stations are accessible around the clock. Collection is straightforward: the carrier sends the recipient a collection code by email or text message.

Infrastructure where people live and travel

Being close to users is a central part of the Tamburi concept. Parcel stations are deliberately installed in residential areas, at businesses and retail sites, in municipalities and at transport hubs. Consolidating deliveries at parcel stations significantly reduces delivery traffic and makes the last mile much more efficient.

The hardware developed by Tamburi is modular and requires neither foundations nor power cables. This allows new locations to be installed with relatively little construction work and expanded or relocated if needed.

The technology is already in use at Austrian railway stations. Together with ÖBB, Tamburi has gradually expanded the service in recent years. Modern digital Tamburi lockers are available at railway stations in all Austrian state capitals and at other locations, providing both luggage storage and parcel services.

From a Vienna start-up to a nationwide infrastructure network

Founded in Vienna in 2019, Tamburi operates a carrier-neutral parcel locker network in Austria, Germany and Slovakia. Its network handles millions of deposits and collections each year.

The 1,000th installation in Austria is not the end of the expansion. Tamburi plans to make the network denser together with housing associations, property owners, municipalities, businesses and other location partners.

Paul Brandstätter, Managing Director of Tamburi Holding GmbH: “Our ambition is to build infrastructure that becomes as readily available as the traditional letterbox. This makes sending and receiving parcels much more convenient while reducing traffic and logistics costs. The 1,000th location is an important step and, at the same time, the starting point for the next phase of growth.”
