Wiener Neustadt, 14 November 2023 – ÖBB is expanding the range of services available at its railway stations.
For our customers, railway stations are important hubs for services needed both when travelling and in everyday life. To help customers combine more errands in one trip and improve satisfaction, ÖBB is introducing a new multifunctional locker system as a pilot at three locations.
In future, lockers will do more than just keep suitcases safe. They now also allow customers to receive parcels and collect them on their way home without a detour. The pilot stations in Wiener Neustadt, Wels and Zell am See are testing additional functions, including contactless handovers of child seats for ÖBB Rail&Drive customers and Click & Collect options for local goods and services.
“The pilot project for these new multifunctional lockers is another step in our efforts to improve service quality at our stations and make travel easier for our customers. We are investing in innovation to improve our passengers’ everyday lives and, in doing so, minimise CO2 emissions.”
Mayor Klaus Schneeberger: “Making the switch to public transport as attractive as possible requires a wide range of measures. This new ÖBB locker system at Wiener Neustadt station is another important step in the right direction. With more than 1,000 bicycle parking spaces, two modern multi-storey car parks, connections to our city bus routes and a joint safety strategy, we have already made the station considerably more attractive in recent years. We will continue to pursue this path together.”
Tamburi Managing Director Dominic Allram: “Tamburi’s goal is to make receiving parcels more convenient. To achieve this, we have developed unique, smart parcel lockers and are now establishing dense locker networks. We thank ÖBB for the successful collaboration and look forward to using our systems for the benefit of ÖBB customers. We invite station users and local residents to make full use of the multifunctional lockers.”
Easy to use, with fewer barriers
Booking a locker is straightforward: customers can book and pay contactlessly on site, or book conveniently on their smartphone with a choice of payment methods. During development, particular attention was paid to optimising use for people with visual impairments and reduced mobility.
With these lockers, ÖBB is modernising station services through innovation and making travel more convenient for its passengers.
